Trainer – Steve Munno, Massaro Community Farm, Manager
Farmer Steve Munno is the Farm Manager of Massaro Community Farm in Woodbridge, CT. Farmer Steve manages 8+ acres of certified organic vegetable production, providing for a 200-subscriber CSA, sales to local markets and restaurants, and weekly donations to hunger relief organizations. The farm operation includes tractor-cultivated fields and hand-cultivated crops in four high tunnels and two movable tunnels for main and extended season production. Prior to coming to Massaro, Farmer Steve gained experience farming in both California and Massachusetts. Steve serves on the Board of CT NOFA and the Steering Committee of NCTFA.
Want to be harvesting crops earlier or later in the season? Are you sure? Farmer Steve Munno will share his experiences extending the growing season in CT for a variety of crops using low, high and movable tunnels. We’ll cover the basics of tunnel size, set up, placement and cost, plus crop choices, planting dates, rotations, opportunities and challenges. We’ll also explore the high tunnels and season extension work currently happening at Massaro Community Farm.
