BF 260W: Operate Your Chainsaw with Safety and Confidence – For Women

Training Description:

This day-long program is an introduction to the safe and efficient operation of a chain saw for routine cutting and felling tasks. Students will learn about essential personal protective equipment, daily chain saw safety inspection and working area safety considerations. Basic saw maintenance and sharpening techniques are covered. Steps for developing a felling plan and controlling felling direction will be introduced and practiced. Each student will receive an opportunity for hands-on felling practice. Participants are welcome to bring their own saw, but it is not necessary.

 

Trainer:

Tom Worthley – UConn Extension
Tom is Associate Extension Professor at the UConn Extension Service and the UConn Department of Natural Resources & Environment where he teaches courses in Forest Management and Dendrology. He has worked extensively on tracts in the UConn Forest and beyond in both outreach and educational activities.

Tom has sponsored and hosted more than a dozen classes over the last few years, teaching chain saw safety and techniques to students on the UConn Forest Crew.  He actively manages 16 acres of woodland at home in Higganum.
